DISTORDER is Darren Cross’s 4th solo studio album (not to be confused with his other D.C Cross Instrumental Guitar project).
With songs spanning between 1991 and 2021, Cross’s mantra for this new album is “Distorted ideas for Distorted times”.
Again, in Sydney, we have been thrown into this Covid lockdown, and luckily for Darren when he tries to escape this ongoing pandemic, his mindful utopia is his music studio.
One song written in 1991, one in 2004, a couple in 2010 and the rest over the last year or so, DISTORDER nods its head to his old band GERLING - with its general disregard to genre hopping (not really a unique idea - see up and coming bands Primal Scream, The Kinks, AIR et al back catalog).
To bring old songs into his current situation, and to find these expressions in the current context was very moving for Cross, and he hopes you feel it as well. Collated, mixed, remixed, mastered, finished in the first week of July 2021 and released in the third week of July 2021, DISTORDER is a spontaneous artistic purge to deal with the current times.
“The end of Track Two, “Memory Lanes”, is to me, what Gerling would sound like today, which is very sad and thrilling at the same time”.
DISTORDER is a Bandcamp exclusive release.
